Teaching Tuesday- Headsprout Review

Headsprout is AWESOME! It uses scientific research of reading mastery including sight words, phonics, fluency, etc.

I started The Flash on this program at 3.5 years old. Within about 9 months, he had completed 56/80 lessons (we made him stop eventually so he could just focus on fluency from what he's already learned).

If you have a child (ages 5-8 or so) who struggles with reading or are just looking for a great computer reading program this is a GREAT way to go. I know many families that also have great things to say about it, but you can read general recommendations on their website.

You can get 3 free lessons and read a FAQ (w/ most of your questions) on the main site:
Headsprout.com

(PS- I am not being paid to endorse this product. I just love it!)

Wow. That looks absolutely perfect. You'd think that after teaching kids to read as a teacher, I'd know how to get started with my own kids. But it's harder than it sounds.

This looks like a cool resource. Thanks.

I know you work with special needs children and I was wondering if you can answer a question for me. I have a 4 year old nephew with some form of autism and he is really really rough with my 3 year old. It's gotten to the point that my son runs away crying when he sees him. I don't want my son to be afraid of his cousin, but I also don't want to put him in any danger or force him to play with him. Any ideas?

I love Headsprout. I use it in my practice with some of my students. I also like Starfall/Learn to Read
