Back in the olden days...
You know, when it actually snowed in the winter.
And I walked to work in the snow.
Uphill.
Both ways.
(aka before I had kids)
Professor X and I used to make waffles over a casual Saturday morning breakfast.
We'd even eat on china plates (knowing it was the only use these wedding presents were going to get).
I tried to make waffles for a while after I became a mom. But the kids were too impatient for them to cook. The waffles would stick to the waffle iron. And the kids wanted nothing to do with less-than-perfect waffles. I tried using the spray on oil so that the waffles didn't stick, but the bottle would easily clog and get messy oil everywhere.
This weekend, I made a discovery.
I could use my new rockin' pastry brush to quickly coat the top and bottom of the waffle iron with oil before pouring in each scoop of batter. I'd tried this successfully for pancakes and crepes already. But this was new. And somewhat ingenious (for me).
Smiles. All around.

And if anyone has a great waffle recipe, let me know. Mine is way too much work!

No good waffle recipe! But I have that same brush! I got it at the local Dollar Tree. :)
Thanks for the tip...going to have to try it out along with my brush. :)
I bought one too and I love it! Great for basting stuff on the grill.
I had gone through many typical "pastry" type brushes and they were so hard to clean and a disaster in the dishwasher.
Yum! Waffles!
With strawberries!
Great minds think alike. i posted on waffles today too. lol
Tell that iron, "Leggo my Eggo!"
Peaches has a thing for those pastry brushes. Completely loves the feel of those soft silicon brushes. A fantastic kitchen distraction for a toddler.
Thanks for the tip and the waffles look delish:)
So glad you posted this! I've been making waffles for a while (successfully), but I've been spraying the iron with olive oil. It's worked, but the overspray is annoying.
I JUST bought the same brush two days ago at Wal-Mart. Next time I make waffles, I'm gonna give that a try. Thanks!
