Mini-me

"I can certainly tell who his daddy is...."

"He looks just like you!"

"Wow. The resemblance is amazing."

428224342_cqQ5H-M

Any father-son might hear comments such as these from time to time.

But what if that child's parents did not share the same cultural heritage, history, or genealogy. What if 7x removed, there was still no genetic connection?

Then clearly, there must be a God connection.

From the first moment we laid eyes on our 3 day old son's 1x1 inch picture, we saw a similarity. And the resemblance was confirmed with every. single. picture.

He is his father's son in looks, and his mother's son in emotions. His athletic prowess--well, he clearly didn't inherit those from us!

I know the remarkable similarities will change as we age, and that nature will alter nurture. But you can never convince me that he was not meant, since the beginning of time, to be our son. He was brought to us through the lives, tears, joys, and pain of others, so that we can never claim him as "our creation". He is our gift, our charge, our blessing.

Miracle after miracle made him our mini-me.

He is your creation - you are guiding how he acts, thinks, feels and loves.

Wonderful write up & fabulous picture.

Smiling over here. Love the photo. And the husband and I definitely thought the same thing... especially in mannerisms.

We don't share this experience. :) The only thing the Tongginator got from me (through nurture, obviously) is her attitude.

They may not have the same genes but they clearly have the same hairstylist ;)

My mom is (technically)my stepmom. We have been together since I was 4 and I am more her creation that anyones. Although we could not look more different (I'm tall and swede-ish, she's a short Italian) My entire life I heave heard people say how it's obvious we are mother and daughter!

So true, my son looks more like me than my husband and IS more like me, but thats great because then he gets along better with his father, not as much character clash

Cool picture. My my oldest son was born, he had the exact same hairline as my hubby. It was just too cute.

So beautiful and SOOOO true!

I'm adopted (think I told you that before, oh well). I get told all the time how much I look like my mom, or how I laugh like my dad.

I have a good friend who is white and adopted three black babies. Oh my goodness, they look exactly like her! I know - it doesn't seem possible. But it's true. She gets told that all the time.

I love how you call it a God connection. Beautiful.

I definitely believe in the God connection! My daughters, who are my husband's children from birth, were raised by both of us since they were toddlers. They have always looked more like me than like him and we always have a good chuckle when people tell us that too.

That was beautiful, and absolutely true. The power of love is far greater than genetics.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, it was written in the stars! Before YOU were born, God planned who your children were meant to be. :)

I think that is so true and just beautiful. I have a friend who says although she wanted her adopted son to have her hubby's eyelashes, she's so much happier he has his dad's sense of humor.

I know just what you mean. My first son looks just like his Daddy.

Yes, it's a crazy, beautiful miracle the way that works out. I often think adopted kids resemble their parents, and wonder if maybe God works it out like that on purpose. We have a wonderful, loving and creative God!

My brother and I were both adopted (not from the same bio. donors) and my brother looks and sounds just like Dad! (I have my Mom's terrible grouchiness).

I love the photo.
